It's a snow day! Not that it matters anymore, since we don't have kids in school, and we are at home anyway every day. But it's a snow day! And I am sorting through books. (Not fun, since I'm trying to figure out which ones I don't need to keep. I need them all, apparently.) Years ago my sister Stephanie gave me the book "Eats, Shoots and Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation" (by Lynne Truss). Leafing through it, I came upon an example of the importance of punctuation: two sentences with the same words, but different punctuation, and which have exactly opposite meanings. Here's the example:
"A woman, without her man, is nothing."
OR
"A woman: without her, man is nothing."
Punctuation, people!!
(On the other hand, let's not go overboard. Let's care first about the people behind the punctuation, and even behind the words.)

In Spanish:
¡Es un día de nieve! Eso ya no nos importa, ya que no tenemos niños en la escuela y estamos en casa todos los días de todos modos. ¡Pero es un día de nieve! Y estoy revisando libros. (No es divertido, ya que estoy tratando de averiguar cuáles no necesito conservar. Los necesito todos, aparentemente.) Hace años, mi hermana Stephanie me dio el libro "Come, dispara y se va: el enfoque de tolerancia cero a la puntuación"(por Lynne Truss). Al hojearlo, encontré un ejemplo de la importancia de la puntuación: dos oraciones con las mismas palabras, pero puntuación diferente, y que tienen significados exactamente opuestos. Lamentablemente, este ejemplo no se puede traducir in espanol.

(Por otro lado, no exageremos. Preocupémonos primero por las personas detrás de la puntuación, e incluso detrás de las palabras).
